Laura McHugh Harrington
About Me - Psychotherapist & Mental Health Trainer
Welcome to Laurel House Therapy, where mental health and well-being take centre stage. As a dedicated psychotherapist and corporate mental health trainer, I am passionate about empowering individuals and workplaces alike.
Qualifications and Expertise
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Integrative Counselling
& Psychotherapy, and am currently pursuing
a Master's Degree in Psychology with the University of Wolverhampton. I have also undergone training in Advanced Lifestyle Medicine for Mental Health,
Mindfulness, and Trauma-Informed Care. As an IACP (Irish Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy)
pre-accredited member, my approach is guided by the highest level of
professional standards and codes of ethics, and I engage in ongoing CPD
(continuous professional development) training with a view to
consistently providing the best possible standard of care to all
clients.
My Role as a Therapist
As a therapist, I am passionate about providing the highest standard
of care to clients facing mental health struggles, as well as to
individuals pursing a path of personal development and growth. My approach is at all times person-centred and, because of the nature of my training, I am in a position to offer a style of therapy that can
be tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. I do this by integrating appropriate and relevant interventions and therapeutic modalities, and by
providing a warm, safe, and non-judgemental space in which clients can
explore past experiences, current challenges and struggles, and goals
and aspirations for the future, while also becoming empowered with
practical knowledge and tools to support their well-being and improve
their quality of life.
My Role as a Mental Health Trainer
With 10 years of experience as a professional trainer and group facilitator, through my
corporate mental health awareness workshops I aim to equip employers and those in managerial and supervisory roles with the necessary tools to foster supportive, stigma-free environments for staff members. By blending my
expertise in mental health with dynamic facilitation skills, I strive to promote open conversations, resilience-building, effective stress-management, and appropriate, compassionate intervention skills.
The Cabin
Nestled in the heart of a serene, rural landscape in County Westmeath, just a few miles from both Tyrrellsspass and Kilbeggan, and close to the towns of Tullamore, Mullingar, Kinnegad, and Athlone, Laurel House Therapy's purpose-built log cabin offers an unparalleled setting for therapy sessions, fostering a deep sense of calm and connection. This tranquil environment provides a peaceful retreat from the demands of daily life, allowing clients to fully immerse themselves in the therapeutic process. Designed with warmth and comfort in mind, the cabin offers an inviting, safe space that encourages openness and reflection, helping to support meaningful therapeutic outcomes and make every session a restorative experience.
For those who prefer not to attend in person, therapy sessions can also be facilitated online via Zoom.
